Brevoort Park is a sixties neighbourhood in the southeast, and unusually precise about it. The land was annexed between 1955 and 1959, home construction peaked from 1961 to 1970, and Brevoort Park School was built starting in 1963 and opened in 1964 — the neighbourhood and its school grew up together.
Just over half the dwellings are single detached houses, with a sizeable minority of duplexes and apartment-style units. That split is the thing that matters most about cleaning here, because it means two different kinds of work on the same streets.
Mid-century houses at sixty years
- Original hardwood under carpet. Very common in this vintage and often found during a renovation. Thin, old, and wants controlled moisture.
- Original bathroom tile — frequently small hexagonal or square formats with a lot of grout line per square foot.
- Kitchens either original or fully replaced, with very little in between. Original mid-century cabinetry has a painted or varnished finish that does not want full-strength degreaser.
- Basements finished in the seventies or later, with panelling, drop ceilings and the dust that goes with them.
- Mature trees everywhere — sixty years of growth means real seed and leaf loads in spring and autumn.
The apartment and duplex half
Because nearly half the dwellings here are multi-unit, Brevoort Park has a turnover rhythm a purely detached neighbourhood does not. If you rent, a professional move-out clean is usually the cheapest way to protect a damage deposit — frequently less than the deposit at stake.
