House Cleaning in Wildwood, Saskatoon
Wildwood is named after something that was there long before the houses. Wildwood Golf Course opened on 1 July 1931 and was Saskatoon's first golf course. The city bought it in 1964 for $120,000, and when the surrounding land was annexed between 1970 and 1974, the course simply lent its name to the new neighbourhood.
That history is still the defining feature of the place: a mature, green, established southeast neighbourhood built around a course that predates it by forty years.
Living beside a golf course changes the cleaning
This is not something most cleaning companies think about, and it is genuinely different here.
- Grass clippings and fine turf dust. A course is mown constantly through the season, and homes backing onto it get a steady fine debris load through open windows and back doors from May to September. It is finer than ordinary yard dirt and it travels further into the house.
- More outdoor living, more coming indoors. Patio doors on the course side see heavy traffic all summer. Entryways and the transitions between outside and in carry far more than an interior-lot home.
- Course-facing glass shows everything. The view is the point, and that glass collects a film that is invisible from inside until the light catches it wrong.
- Irrigation means humidity, and in practice that means keeping a closer eye on basement and bathroom corners than an inland house needs.
Seventies and eighties houses
The housing here dates largely from after the 1970–74 annexation, which puts it at a familiar stage:
- Wood-burning fireplaces, standard in this era, with ash that travels well beyond the hearth.
- Fibreglass tub surrounds that have roughened with age and hold soap scum.
- Original hardwood under carpet in many houses, uncovered during renovation and needing controlled moisture once exposed.
- Basements finished in a later decade, carrying the dust profile of whichever era did the work.
- Genuinely mature trees, older here than in most of the southeast because of the course.
