House Cleaning in Kensington, Saskatoon
Kensington sits on Saskatoon's west side, immediately north of the Blairmore Urban Centre and north of 22nd Street, west of Confederation Park and Pacific Heights. The neighbourhood was approved in 2011, construction began in 2013, and it is projected to reach completion around 2028 with a population near 8,300.
It is also where Saskatoon's first Save-On-Foods opened in the summer of 2017, in the mixed commercial and residential zone along the southern edge — which is part of why the neighbourhood has filled in as quickly as it has.
Still building, still generating dust
Kensington will be under construction for several more years, and that shapes the cleaning more than anything else about the neighbourhood.
- Wind-carried construction dust. The west side is exposed, and fine dust from active lots travels. Window tracks, sills and entryways need far more frequent attention here than in a settled neighbourhood.
- Dust from inside the house itself. New builds shed drywall and construction residue from wall cavities and ductwork for the first two years or so, especially once the furnace runs. It comes back after a clean, and it is not a sign the clean was poor.
- Street grit. Partially finished roads put abrasive material onto new flooring, which is worse than ordinary dirt because it scratches rather than just soils.
West-side winter
From November through March the problem is not dust, it is what arrives on boots. Road salt tracks in, dries to a white crust on entry flooring, and is mildly corrosive to both vinyl and hardwood if it sits. Melting snow carries grit that acts like sandpaper underfoot.
A well-sealed new home running dry forced-air heat compounds it by keeping fine dust airborne for months. We shift the routine seasonally — entries, mudrooms and hard-floor transitions carry the weight through winter, and dusting and window tracks take over in spring. Our prairie winter cleaning guide covers what helps between visits.
Mixed housing, mixed requirements
Kensington has single detached homes alongside townhouses and higher-density development near the commercial edge. Unit work has its own constraints — shared entries, parking limits, quiet hours — and we handle those ourselves rather than making them your problem. See our apartment and condo cleaning page.
Across all of it the finishes are the same modern set: engineered hardwood or luxury vinyl plank, quartz counters, large windows. Damp-not-wet on the floors, nothing acidic or abrasive on the counters, two-cloth method on the glass.
Possession and first cleans
The builder clean before possession is a sweep and a wipe. It leaves dust inside cabinets and drawers, residue in light fixtures and vents, grit in tracks, and adhesive on glass and appliances. Doing a proper post-construction clean on an empty house, before the furniture arrives, is dramatically easier than working around it afterwards.
A young, growing neighbourhood
Kensington households skew toward young families and first-time buyers. For a house this new the honest recommendation is bi-weekly recurring service rather than a deep clean — there is nothing to catch up on yet.
We also cover the west side for care services: babysitting from $28 per hour with CPR, First Aid and Food Safe certified sitters who are Vulnerable Sector checked, and non-medical senior care from $32 per hour.
