House Cleaning in Eastview, Saskatoon
Eastview is one of several Saskatoon neighbourhoods that existed on paper decades before it existed on the ground. A 1913 map of registered subdivisions shows the land as an acreage plus a small subdivision called Megantic Park that was never developed, with another proposed and equally undeveloped one named Preston Place in what is now the southwest corner.
Those names came out of the speculative land boom before the First World War, when far more of Saskatoon was platted than was ever built. Most of the land was annexed between 1950 and 1959, the southern piece in the 1960s, and while a little building happened before 1946, the vast majority went up between 1961 and 1970.
It is a south-central neighbourhood of low-density detached houses mixed with low-rise apartments and semi-detached homes.
A sixties house at sixty
- Original hardwood under carpet — the signature find of this vintage, and thin enough by now that it wants controlled moisture rather than a wet mop.
- Original bathroom tile, often small-format with a great deal of grout line per square foot. There is no fast version of that job.
- Kitchens original or fully replaced, very little in between. Original cabinetry from this era has a finish a strong degreaser will strip.
- Basements finished in the seventies, with panelling and drop ceilings holding decades of dust above the tiles.
- Sixty years of tree growth and the seasonal load that comes with it.
The mixed housing types
Because Eastview combines detached houses with low-rise apartments and semi-detached homes, there is a steady turnover rhythm alongside the long-tenure owners. If you rent, a professional move-out clean is usually the cheapest way to protect a damage deposit — often less than the deposit at stake. Smaller units are priced on what an intensively used space actually needs rather than scaled down from a house rate: see apartment and condo cleaning.
