Brighton is the newest neighbourhood we serve. Construction began in 2016, and it was the first residential community developed in the Holmwood sector on Saskatoon's east side — meaning the entire neighbourhood is under a decade old and parts of it are still being built.
It is also unusually self-contained. Brighton Marketplace brought Save-On-Foods, Wilson's Lifestyle Centre, Motion Fitness and Landmark Cinemas into the neighbourhood itself, so residents are not driving across the city for daily errands the way earlier suburbs did.
Cleaning a house that is still nearly new
People assume a new house is easy to clean. In practice a Brighton home has its own specific list, and most of it comes from the house being new rather than old.
- Residual construction dust. In a neighbourhood still under active development, fine dust from nearby lots carries on the wind and gets in through every opening. Homes on the building edge of Brighton need window tracks, sills and entry areas done far more often than the city average.
- First-generation finishes under warranty. Engineered hardwood, LVP and quartz are all still within their warranty period in most Brighton homes — and most warranties are voided by the wrong cleaning product. Damp-not-wet on floors, non-acidic on quartz.
- New-build off-gassing and settling dust. New homes shed drywall and construction residue from inside cavities for the first couple of years, particularly through vents. It reappears after cleaning in a way that owners find baffling until it is explained.
- Unfinished basements. Very common in this build window, and they generate and hold dust that migrates upstairs through the stairwell and ductwork.
